For the third year in a row, the Hot Wheels Legends Tour will scour the country for the next life-size custom car worthy of becoming a Hot Wheels toy car. Dubbed as the ‘world’s largest travelling car show’, the Hot Wheels Legends Tour will stop at 18 different Walmart parking lots around the country, searching for the car that best embodies Hot Wheels’ standards of performance and design.
“After stopping in more than 20 different cities and seeing almost 10,000 custom builds over the last two years, we’ve been blown away by our fans’ talent and serious passion for cars,” said Ted Wu, Head of Hot Wheels Design, Mattel. “The Legends Tour brings together every aspect of car culture embodied by the Hot Wheels brand, and we’re excited to take it to the next level in an even bigger and better way in 2020.”
The Tour was a smash hit in 2019, attracting more than 90,000 fans and 5,000 custom cars. This year, the Legends Tour expects even larger numbers thanks to the addition of Milwaukee and Boston to the city list.
At each stop along the way, fans will have a chance to show off their custom builds for consideration in the contest. Anything is welcome, whether the car is jet-inspired like the 2018 winner 2JetZ, or a classic build like The Nash, who won the 2019 contest (pictured in this article’s photos). The winner is decided by a team of Hot Wheels designers and automotive influencers based on authenticity, creativity and garage spirit. Each winner from all 18 stops will win a trip to the 2020 SEMA show in Las Vegas, where they will be judged side-by-side to determine the grand prize winner.
New for 2020, Mobil 1 will provide a second chance to get to the final competition. This fan favorite contest will give runners up from each local stop a second chance at becoming immortalized into the Hot Wheels Garage of Legends.
