CARCADIA’S GLENN OYOUNG HONORED BY THE CITY OF ARCADIA

Carcadia's Glenn Oyoung Honored by City of Arcadia

The City of Arcadia honors LA Car’s own Glenn Oyoung for his role in creating and growing the San Gabriel Valley cars and coffee event, Carcadia at Route 66.

There was something different about this day’s “Carcadia by Route 66” gathering. As it has for more than a decade, the cars converged in the Arcadia parking look on the early morning of the last Sunday of the month. But on this day, the mayor of Arcadia arrived, along with two former mayors of the city, to honor Carcadia’s creator, Glenn Oyoung.

Back when we first met Glenn Oyoung, he explained how Carcadia was born: “As a relatively new transplant to Arcadia back in 2013, I was surprised by the number of great cars from classic muscle cars to modern exotics that I would see on a daily basis either on the street or tucked away in garages.” After Glenn approached the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce, received the backing of Arcadia’s Best, and permission from the city and Denny’s to use their lot, Carcadia at Route 66 was born.

The venue has changed over the years (from the former Van de Kamp-turned-Denny’s windmill lot to the current location at the Arcadia Hub Shopping Center near Baldwin and Naomi Avenues, but Carcadia by Route 66 has been the de facto cars and coffee destination for aficionados of car culture in the San Gabriel Valley.

While Carcadia has enjoyed the company of some very unique cars, like the Arcadia Police Department’s 1959 Ford Galaxie, a 1957 Mercedes Gullwing, a 1970 Plymouth Superbird, a Briggs Automotive Company Mono, and a Ferrari 458 Speciale Aperta, Glenn has welcomed all manner of vehicles to Carcadia. “The most common question we’re asked about Carcadia is ‘I have (fill in the blank), can I bring it?’ The answer is YES. Anything with wheels is welcome. In the last two years we’ve had hot rods, muscle cars, imports, exotics, motorcycles, and even bicycles on display.”

So, on the day of February 23, 2025, Arcadia Mayor Dr. Michael Cao presented Glenn Oyoung with the city’s Certificate of Appreciation. During the presentation, Mayor Cao noted that this particular Carcadia drew hundreds of people and over a hundred cars. “On behalf of the City of Arcadia, thank you so much for hosting such a wonderful event for so long,” said Cao. To which Glenn replied, “Thank you, Mayor! Can I give you a hug.”

Flanking Glenn and the mayor were Glenn’s two daughters, Juliet and Colette, as well as former Arcadia mayors, Sho Tay and Bob Harbricht.

“While I truly love the cars we get at Carcadia,” Glenn says “what I really enjoy is watching gear heads from totally different backgrounds mixing it up.”

Attendees have shared with me that’s what makes Carcadia one of their favorite gatherings too. Some regularly come from as far as Diamond Bar and Huntington Beach to meet new people and see new cars.”

Carcadia at Route 66 is held the last Sunday of every month, from 7am to 9:00am at the Arcadia Hub Shopping Center, 733 West Naomi Avenue, Arcadia, CA. And the price? It’s free to attend or exhibit. For more information, go to the Carcadia Facebook page here.
