A strong showing of support and volunteerism continues to represent Laguna Seca as they perform work with numerous service organizations.

Laguna Seca Recreation Area has a new group of volunteers at its disposal. Management has established a department to support and work with service organizations. This new department will also assist 250-plus dedicated volunteers who formerly comprised the volunteer base of the Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP).

“We have been engaging with the enthusiastic service clubs who have volunteered in the past and many of the men and women who have supported racing on the Monterey Peninsula over the years,” said John Narigi, president and general manager of WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. “I have deep respect for the community-minded individuals who have provided countless hours over the years to ensure each event runs safely and smoothly, and we look forward to continuing that dynamic tradition.”

The new volunteer department will work closely with the organizations who want to continue supporting the events, as well as assistant directors and individuals. Kalina McKinney, volunteer coordinator at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca is heading the department. The priority is revising the volunteer structure to provide consistent communication and involvement opportunities that match each person’s interest.

“The individuals whom I have communicated with are enthusiastic about returning as ambassadors of WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca,” said McKinney. “I am greatly encouraged by the responses and knowledge base they are sharing. Now, we just need to get back on track.”

Amazingly, in addition to the 250-plus assistant directors, there are more than 300 people who have expressed interest in volunteering to support community events or are enthusiastic racing fans who want a behind-the-scenes role in providing a welcoming guest experience. Letters are being sent to all the individuals interested in the 2020 and 2021 season.
