Mazda’s centennial celebration includes a special version of the best selling two-seat sports car in the world.
It’s not every day that us Americans are able to get our hands on a special edition Japanese car. Thankfully, if you’re a Miata fan, this newly announced 100th Anniversary Special Edition MX-5 Miata is very appealing. Mazda also mentioned that the car will be in produced in limited numbers later this year, however specific numbers and dates have not been released. The iconic roadster embodies Mazda’s standards of driving enjoyment and is the obvious choice to bear the special badge.
The 100th Anniversary Special Edition MX-5 Miata is available in two variants; either the RF (retractable fastback) or exclusive red soft top. The only paint color available is Snowflake White Pearl Mica and will be accented by red styling features throughout the car. A minimalist “100 Years 1920-2020” badge will adorn the front fender, while the wheel center caps also feature a 100th Anniversary Special Logo in red and black.
On the interior, red leather seats and red carpet add a touch of prestige, all while honoring the two-tone R360 Coupe, Mazda’s first passenger car. The headrests are embossed with the 100th Anniversary Special Logo and the red floor mats share the same badge. The key fob is also embossed with the Special Logo and is presented in a fancy special edition box.
The 100th Anniversary Special Edition MX-5 Miata is based on the 2020 MX-5 Grand Touring package. Under the hood, the Special Edition is equipped with the excellent 2.0L four-cylinder engine that pumps out 181 horsepower and 151 lb.-ft. of torque.
Either a manual or automatic transmission is available on the Special Edition, but c’mon, get the manual. As an added bonus, the manual transmission versions will include a limited-slip differential, Bilstein® dampers, front shock tower brace, sport-tuned suspension and, for the RF variant, a black roof. Cough-cough get the manual.
The Special Edition Miata also comes with Apple CarPlayTM and Android AutoTM, heated leather seats, Bose® audio system with headrest speakers, automatic climate control and 17-inch dark silver aluminum alloy wheels.
Along with the car, Mazda is introducing 100th Anniversary Special Edition items that are available through the Mazda Collection. These items include a cast metal keychain medallion, Japanese ceramic mugs featuring either the Cosmos Sport or RX-Vision, and model cars in 1/43 scale that feature heritage and concept Mazda vehicles. In early July, the “Mazda One Hundred” coffee table book becomes available. This book spans the entire history of Mazda and emphasizes the manufacturer’s challenger spirit and commitment to the joy of driving.
