Audi has been adding electric models to its e-tron lineup and the A6 sedan is the latest entry. In case you have never heard of it, the Audi A6 is the brand’s sleek mid-size sedan, but the e-tron version is more than just the addition of an electrified powertrain. Audi changed the car’s layout by adding a rear-mounted electric motor, while the Quattro version adds a second motor up front for all-wheel-drive.
If you want even more performance from an electrified luxury sedan, the Audi S6 e-tron is where it’s at. That version produces 543 ponies to all four wheels with its dual-motor setup. However, as enticing as that may be, I found the regular A6 e-tron to be a well-balanced daily commuter with enough power and range to keep most drivers happy. Especially considering it’s not like they are going to take an EV to the track and really feel the power anyway.
Exterior
Despite being based on the A6 sedan, the A6 e-tron adds a little more flair to the equation to differentiate itself from its gas-powered counterpart. First of all, it’s a sportback, which means that it has a liftback trunk that hides a rather large cargo area. Think of it like a hatchback sedan. Aside from that main difference, this four-door e-tron features some tell-tale Audi bits like LED lighting, flush door handles, and an overall modern look that’s not too flash or over-the-top futuristic. I really liked the Plasma Blue metallic paint job, which is relatively new to the Audi line.
Interior
Sit inside the A6 e-tron and its cabin feels like a premium space. Of course, I wouldn’t expect anything less from the German brand, but they really upped the ante on these e-tron cars and the attention to detail is impeccable. There’s a minimalist dashboard layout that avoids clutter but is filled with screens. There are also soft-touch materials everywhere, as well as ambient lighting and piano black surfaces. There is plenty of room in both rows and the rear middle seat passenger won’t be cramped, even they are adult-sized.

Drivetrain and driving experience
Driving the Audi A6 e-tron feels engaging, comfortable, and sporty all at the same time. The car’s precise steering responded to my inputs quickly, and its ride quality was supple, but firm enough to give it a planted feel.
Additionally, the A6’s dual-motor setup delivered its 456 horsepower with smooth execution and plenty of gusto when launching off the line. The car’s Quattro system helped keep the tires stuck to the ground in every situation, allowing me to push the car in the corners for some spirited driving fun.
However, the A6 was also comfortable enough for long highway trips and it was efficient as well. Audi claims that the Quattro-equipped tester I had could get up to 377 miles of range on a single charge. I’m assuming that was fairly accurate because it had well over 300 miles of range left when I received the car, which more than enough for my week of driving. I didn’t have to charge the car, but if I did, one cool feature is the built-in racing video game that I could have played if I did.
Technology
Audi has always been big on tech and the A6 e-tron is no exception. This new EV sedan carries all the high-tech kit that most tech nerds would want, including a large 14.5-inch center screen with MMI touch, an 11.9-inch Virtual cockpit display that is configurable, a screen in front of the passenger, and a banging Bang & Olufsen premium audio system with headrest speakers. All the usuals, like wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto are present, as are heated and ventilated seats and a wireless charging pad for your phone. Essentially, you can find everything you want in an Audi A6 e-tron when it comes to technology.
Safety
Safety is another area where the A6 e-tron excels. Audi has equipped the sedan with a comprehensive suite of advanced driver-assistance features, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking. It also has a robust structural design, combined with multiple airbags and a state-of-the-art collision avoidance system, which is some solid peace of mind. With these innovations, the A6 e-tron offers the top-tier protection that you would expect from the German automaker.

Summary
Ultimately, the Audi A6 e-tron strikes an impressive balance between luxury, performance, and EV innovation. Although this version of Audi’s mid-size sedan packs a hefty price tag, its impressive standard and optional feature set, coupled with its comfortable cabin and surprising performance, make it worth every dollar spent. If you’re considering going electric but want to maintain a sense of sophistication and driving pleasure, the A6 e-tron deserves a spot at the top of your list.
