2025 Audi SQ5

The engine roars to life and the Virtual Cockpit comes to life with graphics and gauges to let you (and all your neighbors) know that the beast within is awake. OK, that sounds a little over-exaggerated, but it’s true. Audi has perfected the performance formula when it comes to updated the SQ5 with every generation, and my week spent with it proved that – at least on the street. 

After being amazed by the start-up sequence and driving the car, it becomes clear in an instant that this little sporty SUV is meant to be on a track. Everything from the lively engine under its hood to the red painted calipers and sport seats scream “drive me fast!” But alas, I didn’t have a race track to drive it on, so I went about my normal driving, which included running errands and carrying on about my normal business. However, in my daily plodding between points A and B, I was still thoroughly impressed with the SQ5. 

Exterior

The 2025 Audi SQ5 stands out with its aggressive, sporty exterior design. Signature S-specific elements include a bold Single frame grille with aluminum accents, striking LED headlights, and pronounced front air intakes that hint at its performance pedigree. The red-painted brake calipers, quad exhaust outlets, and unique 21-inch alloy wheels further emphasize its athletic character.

The sculpted body lines and flared wheel arches give the SQ5 a commanding presence on the road, while the rear features a sleek spoiler and LED taillights for a modern, sophisticated touch. Subtle badging and gloss black trim pieces complete the look, making the SQ5 instantly recognizable as the sportier, more dynamic sibling of the Q5.

Interior

Sit inside the 2025 Audi SQ5 and you’ll be treated to a cabin that blends sportiness with luxury, offering a driver-focused cabin that exudes sophistication. Premium materials such as diamond-stitched leather upholstery, brushed aluminum accents, and carbon fiber trim elevate the air of refinement, which complements the German craftsmanship. The sport seats provide excellent support during spirited driving and are both heated and ventilated for year-round comfort. As a bonus, the seats massage functions keep you even more comfortable while driving.

The Virtual Cockpit digital display delivers crisp graphics and customizable views, while the intuitive MMI infotainment system keeps you connected and entertained. Ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, and a spacious rear seat ensure the SQ5 is as practical as it is exhilarating. With thoughtful details like contrast stitching, S-badging, and a flat-bottom steering wheel, the interior truly reflects the performance pedigree of the SQ5.

Technology

The 2025 Audi SQ5 is packed with state-of-the-art technology that enhances both convenience and driving enjoyment. At the heart of the cabin is the Audi Virtual Cockpit, a fully digital instrument cluster with crisp graphics and customizable displays that keep important information right in the driver’s line of sight. It’s a new take on an old features, since Audi has been using it for a while now.  The intuitive MMI infotainment system features a high-resolution touchscreen, seamless smartphone integration through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and voice control for hands-free access to navigation, music, and more.

Additional tech highlights include a premium Bang & Olufsen sound system, which sounds amazing,  wireless charging for devices, and multiple USB ports for charging. The passenger also gets their own touchscreen, which the driver can’t see while the car is in motion. Every passenger that I had in that seat loved playing with the YouTube app while I drove. 

The SQ5 also offers an array of driver-assistance features such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and a surround-view camera system, making daily driving safer and easier. Ambient interior lighting and a panoramic sunroof contribute the car’s modern. luxurious atmosphere.

Powertrain and Driving Experience

The 2025 Audi SQ5 is powered by a robust turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine, delivering an impressive 362 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. Paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and Audi’s renowned Quattro all-wheel-drive system, the SQ5 launches off the line with plenty of gusto that builds as the RPMs climb. The car maintains a  confident grip in all driving conditions. Acceleration is brisk as highway speeds come in under five seconds, which make every stab of the throttle exhilarating.

Behind the wheel, the SQ5’s adaptive suspension and precise steering create a dynamic yet composed driving experience. Whether tackling winding roads or cruising on the highway, the chassis remains planted, and body roll is minimal. The Drive Select system allows you to tailor the car’s performance to your mood, switching seamlessly between Comfort, Auto, and Dynamic modes. I mostly left it in Dynamic mode because it made the car feel more lively. But even in everyday commuting, the SQ5 maintains a refined ride with a luxurious feel, despite its large wheels and sporty suspension.

Safety

The 2025 Audi SQ5 is equipped with a comprehensive suite of advanced safety technologies designed to provide peace of mind for both driver and passengers. Standard features include Audi Pre Sense City, which helps detect potential collisions and can initiate emergency braking, as well as lane departure warning and blind spot monitoring to enhance situational awareness. Adaptive cruise control maintains a safe distance from vehicles ahead, while rear cross-traffic alert and a surround-view camera system make parking and maneuvering easier in tight spaces.

In addition, the SQ5 offers innovative driver-assistance systems such as traffic sign recognition and automatic high-beam assist, which got a little intrusive on some dark streets, but it’s easy to switch off. Multiple airbags, reinforced body structures, and electronic stability control further contribute to occupant protection in the event of an accident. Altogether, the safety features of the 2025 SQ5 ensure that this stout SUV will keep you and your occupants safe. 

Summary

The Audi SQ5 has been in the market for over a decade and the German automaker has never strayed far from its original performance formula. For a 2025 model, it still works. The Audi SQ5 provides hair-raising, smile-inducing fun when you push it on the open road or tear up a canyon back road on the way home. But when it’s time to keep things calm, the SQ5 works well as a daily commuter that can get you from point A to B with no issues. However, it’s much better when you lay on the  throttle.
