Clicking off a lap time of 1:24.88, the Porsche 911 GT2 RS has taken the crown as the fastest production car to go around the iconic Road Atlanta race track.
Its fitting that a Porsche would hold the crown at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta as the brand has a lot of history at the course. Their North American headquarters is also just 60 miles away so for them its like getting a championship banner in the rafters of their home court.
24 Hours Of Daytona and Le Mans winner David Donohue and fan favorite racer Randy Pobst split driving duties. The pair put the Porsche 911 GT2 RS through its paces but it was ultimately Randy who set the record breaking lap. That isn’t surprising since Randy also set the lap record in the same car at both Weather Tech Laguna Seca Raceway and Willow Springs International race way last year.
The Porsche 911 GT2 RS is actually the second car to break the lap record at Road Atlanta with the 911 GT3 RS being the first. Though with its twin turbo power the GT2 beat the GT3’s time by over 2 seconds!
