The Scaled Composites Model 367 BiPod is a gasoline-electric hybrid
The long-delayed flying car is now proclaimed a reality - and it's a hybrid. The Scaled Composites Model 367 BiPod, designed by Burt Rutan, is said to be a gasoline-electric twin-pod vehicle with a range of 760 miles in the air and 820 miles on the ground - and it works a bit like a Chevrolet Volt.
The vehicle will have two engines which power a pair of electric generators which power the electric motors. Lithium ion batteries will provide power during takeoff and landing.
On the ground, the vehicle will have an all-electric range of 35 miles. And its removable wings allow it to fit in a one-car garage.
