German publisher Delius Klasing is in the business of producing high-quality books covering the legends of motorsports. Their latest tribute to the venerable 911, “911 LoveRS” focuses on the special RS models that are the very essence of Porsche’s performance philosophy – literally stripped of excess weight in pursuit of visceral driving pleasure.
The 911 has so many variants that Porsche recently had to make an explainer video to help mere mortals make sense of the 911 landscape. The RS family is easy to understand: throughout the last 50 years of 911’s, the RS trim has always been the most hardcore. Take a 911 and make it lighter and more powerful, at the expense of creature comforts.
911 LoveRS covers the history of the fabled RS from the very first record-breaking 911 R built in 1967 for endurance racing which laid the groundwork for the 911 2.7 RS and 2.8 RS which unleashed a fevered demand for limited-edition Porsches (and ducktail spoilers) which is with us today.
In typical Delius Klasing fashion, 911 LoveRS features beautiful photography of gorgeous machines from the 1967 911R to the 2017 911R and all the RS models in between. Author Jurgen Lewandowski does a fabulous job of connecting man and machine by highlighting actual owners and cluing us into where each owner’s obsession for the RS family began. It makes for interesting reading and complements the eye-catching visuals in this tome.
