Hector Cademartori’s Datsun Christmas Card

For the year twenty-thousand, seventeen, LACar’s own famed automotive artist Hector Cademartori presents “Tribute”—the Datsun Christmas card. We’ve got the card posted as the opening graphic art on LACar’s Facebook page. Hector tells us how he made the card… The Making of the Art For those of you who are interested in the process, I took some photos to show you how the artwork progresses. The first thing I do are two or three rough sketches in black and white and end up with one rough which I finish with a black marker and, If I want, add some color. In this case I colored the red and green areas to see if they'll work. Then, I transfer the rough to illustration board and reinforce the lines with a fine pencil. I start painting, car first, and the sequence is self explanatory. This year I wanted to do a racing theme.

The title "Tribute" pays homage to Peter Brock's BRE Datsun 240Z. As you can see, I adapted some elements from the Christmas theme, the number 25 and the color scheme of Santa Claus Racing. There are many Datsun/Nissan elements all over the place for those who look closely. From the Nissan GTP poster on the back wall to the little 1958 1000 cc "Rally around Australia" Datsun toy car on the table. The Christmas cards are definitively enjoyable projects and I trust that those who buy them will spread the joy when they send them out to family, friends and fellow Datsun enthusiasts, of course!
