“It was a beautiful 80-degree sunny day, and after it was over I didn't hear any negative news stories such as classic car thefts,” said Mark Dapoz, who for decades has been covering the Woodward Dream Cruise for LA Car. “Due to the number of car attacks around the world, a couple new restrictions were enforced this year: no trailers were allowed, and there was a weight limit of 10,000 pounds,” says Dapoz. “Ford signed a one-year deal to be the official cruise sponsor, when Chevy backed out after sponsoring it the past six years.”
Woodward Avenue was long known as the center of street racing in Detroit. In 1994, the city mayor and a local plumber came up with the idea of a Dream Cruise. Today, the Dream Cruise is the largest single day car event in the world, attracting 40,000 cars and 1.5 million people. Detroit-born and bred Mark Dapoz was there to record the event on his digital black box. We present 50 shades of Mark’s views of this boulevard of unbroken dream.
