(LOS ANGELES – Oct. 20, 2011)—Southern California gas prices are once again nearing $4 a gallon as they continued heading up for the second straight week, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California’s Weekend Gas Watch. The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.892 per gallon, which is 4.7 cents higher than last week, 5.2 cents lower than last month, and 75 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the price is $3.889, an increase of 5.2 cents from last week, 5.1 cents below last month, and 73 cents higher than last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.909, up 1.3 cents from last week, 7.1 cents lower than a month ago, and 72 cents above last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per gallon price is $3.855, up 4.7 cents from last week, six cents lower than last month, and 73 cents more than last year. “Wholesale gasoline prices in Los Angeles jumped by 40 cents between the first and second weeks of October, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration,” said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring. “Analysts say a refinery issue in California, coupled with one in Canada that diverted some West Coast gas products, are to blame for the run-up in prices.” The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline.
