2020 Challenger SRT Super Stock: 807 Hell-Raising Horses

The 2020 Dodge Challenger SRT Super Stock is Detroit’s latest drag strip weapon and gains 10 more horsepower over its predecessor, the SRT Hellcat Redeye.

Now officially the world’s quickest and most powerful muscle car, the 2020 Dodge Challenger SRT Super Stock stands atop the straight-line speed podium. Dodge once again reaffirms its commitment to drag racing with this 807 horsepower titan, and continues to be the only manufacturer focused on ¼ mile times. While the other Motor City bigwigs brandish g-force numbers and weight distribution in their “muscle cars” to advertise handling, the SRT Super Stock is fantastically sticking to its original purpose: straight line speed.

“I swore that we’d never build another Demon and we won’t,” said Tim Kuniskis, Global Head of Alfa Romeo and Head of Passenger Cars – Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and FIAT, FCA – North America. “But I also said that every Challenger Hellcat and Redeye comes with an unspoken commitment to uphold the brand and the new Challenger SRT Super Stock is engineered to do just that.”

The 2020 Challenger SRT Super Stock is equipped with the same 6.2L Hemi V8 that powers the current Hellcat Redeye. However, thanks to some shift point calibration devilry, the horsepower jumps from 797 in the Redeye to 807 in the SRT Super Stock. The shift point has been increased from 6,300 RPM to 6,400 RPM allowing for the horsepower increase.

Accompanying the new powertrain calibration, the Challenger SRT Super Stock is built squatting on a standard Widebody, along with new suspension, Brembo brakes, and a wheel/drag radial combo. These upgrades blast the Challenger SRT Super Stock from 0-60 mph in 3.25 seconds, a 10.5 second Âź mile time at 131 mph, and a top speed of 168 mph, which is only limited by the tires.

“Ask anyone who has ever driven a street car on low-profile performance tires and then back to back on drag radials with increased sidewall, and they will tell you the difference is game-changing,” Kuniskis added. “The SRT Super Stock package allows the Challenger Redeye to launch harder and pick-up three car lengths in the quarter-mile.”

‘Super Stock’ refers to a racing class of cars that look nearly identical to their ordinary passenger vehicle siblings. These ‘sleepers’ are secretly outfitted to open a can of whoop-ass on your unsuspecting cockiness. The Challenger SRT Super Stock is indeed a sleeper, with no special Super Stock badging on the car. To the untrained eye, this is just your average Challenger. The giveaway here is the 18-inch-by-11-inch wheels with a Low Gloss Granite finish, riding on massive, sticky 315/40R18 Nitto NT05R drag radials at all four corners.

The Dodge Challenger SRT Super Stock comes with four different drive modes: Auto (Street), Sport, Track and Custom. While in Track Mode, the Super Stock’s ingenious Bilstein adaptive suspension goes to work, adjusting shock compression and dampening to help you get the best jump off the line, while also keeping the car firmly in the driver’s control.

Launch Assist, Launch Control and Line Lock make a return in the Challenger SRT Super Stock to make it a true showroom to strip track monster.

Dealer orders will open up later this summer for the 2020 Dodge Challenger SRT Super Stock and the cars will start arriving in dealerships later this year. No word yet on the price.

It’s not quite a Demon, but it’s still a brute to be reckoned with.
