For the first time in 65 years, the Turkey Night Grand Prix – A Southern California staple – will not run, as it falls to the challenges of 2020.

Southern California has held the most automotive racing in the entire world, and Midget Racing has been a large part of that. The Turkey Night Grand Prix is traditionally held on Thanksgiving night at Ventura Raceway. Folks can fill up on mashed potatoes and head to the track to watch small speed machines fly around the oval.

However, the 2020 Turkey Night Grand Prix has fallen victim to the scourge of COVID-19 and the slew of cancellations throughout the year. For the first time in 65 years, the race will not take place.

Happily for us, one of the true partisans of the sport and the event: author, historian, and LACar’s very own Harold Osmer has put together a wonderful tribute to this very special American motorsports event and the traditions that so permeate it.

Enjoy it, pass it along and, as I hope you will, please send your thanks and congratulations along to Harold at: [email protected].

We hope to see you at the (slightly delayed) 80th running of Turkey Night next year!
